Michelle, I couldn't agree more! More fair use best practices documents
like the one you mentioned above are in the works because of a recent
grant awarded to the Center and ARL. ALA is working on this project as
well. In the past, I agree that ALA was too conservative - this
attitude (I believe) was based on ill-conceived fair use guidelines and
a misunderstanding of the purpose of copyright which is to advance
learning for the benefit of the public. The Founding Fathers had it
right in the first place!
