I usually just read and get ideas from this listserv (which I am VERY thankful
for!), but do feel compelled to weigh in on this topic. I am still new and
technically in my first year as a school librarian. My library has all of the
books in the series in question and I am not going to pull them as I see it as
self-censorship. When a student inquires about reading these books, I have a
conversation with them letting them know what the book entails and if they feel as
though they can handle it. I have not actually had too much interest from high
schoolers in the series, but more from faculty at this point. I am sure this will
change when the American movie has more publicity.

Also, I thought that 'Tricks' by Ellen Hopkins was just as risqué, or even more so,
than 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' and that is a YA book...

Just my two cents.

I love this series, too, and have read all three books, but the violence and sex is
very explicit, and I wouldn't put it on my high school shelves.
