Herein lies the problem perhaps. I AM a teacher. I am involved with
direct instruction 99% of my day. I am not a keeper of the books and
I do nearly all of my "administrative" work beyond the school day at
home. Meanwhile, I design and implement curriculum and instruction and help
others do the same. I am also a subject area specialist. If a
school wishes to replace me with a classified assistant then they should be
just as willing to replace the math teacher and the chemistry teacher and
the language arts teacher and just about every third grade teacher in the
U.S. with teaching assistants.
