Here in New York City, we did not tell the kids because we had no way of knowing whose parents worked in the building or as police or firefighters. It served no prupose to terrorize them. They were told there had been a plane crash that effected public transportation, and they were held in homeroom until either a perent picked them up, or ntil dismissal time. All of us here in the city are touched in some way by someone connected to the WTC or to the rescue personnel: many of us have lost people close to us. It would have been inappropriate to terrify the children by telling them. We used the LMC for the teachers who had preps or free periods to get information.
