I've been impressed at the recycling efforts everyone has come up with for the used catalog/shelflist cards (although I'm totally in favor of keeping a hard copy, just in case). I haven't seen any suggestions as to what to do with the books that are being weeded, though, other than throwing them out. Is a book sale a possibility, perhaps at Open House time? Is giving them away to whomever wants them an option? I know that some districts are very strict about what happens to school-owned property once it is defunct, but it really seems a shame that these books could not be put to a better use. I know that there are those who would say that if the book is of no use to the library, then it is of no use to anyone, but it seems that someone could benefit from them someway. Any ideas?
