LM_NET Archive



This is so fun!  And whomever sent the sneak/snuck one, I am with you all the
way.  This thread seems to be concerned only with the spoken word.  I worry
about the incorrect phrases our students read. When students read something
in print, it is often taken as the truth.  Maybe it is because of this
thread, but the book I just started to read has so many grammatical errors,
it is becoming difficult for me to read.  There are too many to mention, but
one that I have not yet read in this thread is "I am going to call her/him
up."  How many people do you know named up? We are using tenses so
incorrectly that I am beginning to wonder if people will just accept the
changes as correct.  With that said, I guess another one of my pet peeves is
"I am looking to buy a computer," or "I am wanting to purchase a set of
encyclopedias."  When did we start talking like this?  I think our language
is changing so rapidly now that we are watching it evolve daily.
