Hello all, I'm looking for an anecdote from a book by Maya Angelou and haven't been able to find it. I thought some of you might be more familiar with her work than I am. She writes about a woman in rural Arkansas who used ingenuity to support her family by making and selling meat pies near a cotton gin or mill. She couldn't afford a store building so she took the pies to where the men were working. The quote I'm looking for is something like, "When the road don't go where you need it to, cut yourself a new road." Is this from "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings"? I don't have the book. I have searched all the Maya Angelou websites I could find on Google & didn't come up with it. I appreciate it if someone could help me with this. BTW, before the official ending of the Grammar Pet Peeve thread, somebody explain to me why people have started saying, "The problem is is that...." or "The reason is is that.... " (with accent on the first "is.") ?????
