I too have problems getting teachers to let me help them help the kids. I asked both my principal and assistant principal last year if the media center was being run as they expected (it was the first year in three years working here that I actually got to do the media center without having to teach science or other classes.) They thought everything was great! Why would I even ask? I told them they are paying alot of money for a babysitter (there are study halls in the media center all but one period per day). They just didn't get it. So how do you change the perception? With all of the study hall supervision it is difficult to connect with teachers. I see the two or three who have the same planning period as I do and two or three more over lunch but that's it. I'm becoming resigned to being a glorified babysitter and have abandoned all hopes of attaining national certification.
