This thread is one that has given me food for thought, (like many do on the listserv). I would agree that wornout no longer useful books should be disposed of in the best way possible locally. However, in the case of the Bible, Koran, Torah or even some other specific "holy book" type texts, I think that we should be sensitive about disposing of them. Contacting a mosque seems to be a very reasonable to deal with an old Quran. Doing so gives any muslim students in your school reason to feel that you respect their religion. Yes you may have to do the same for a book in another religion, but really, how often will that happen? I doubt that it is so often that it will be an issue. As for having the texts, I have the Bible in several versions, the Book of Mormon, a Quran and some Buddhist tests. I also have a set of books (sacred texts Smart Apple Media, c2004) which are checked out right now by the Honors World History class. Deborah Stafford Gen. H.H.
