In the book I Hear America Talking by Flexner, it states that in the 30s, New York City was full of opportunity, ripe for plucking. In addition, the biggest dance craze was the Big Apple. These two reasons earned New York City the nickname of "The Big Apple". Barbara Goldstein avish@hamlet.umd.edu
