We are a 450-student, grades 4 - 12 school in central British Columbia. My principal has asked me set up a Career Prep program in Library. It would mean designing a grade 11 or 12-level course sort of summarizing the introductory school-librarian training courses we all take. Students would take it along with 100 hours of work experience in libraries and a number of regular grade 11 and 12 courses and a Career Skills course. What they get out of it is some background in libraries and how they work or should work, plus work experience, plus some idea about whether it seems like there might be a career for them in library work. My request? Does anyone already operate such a program? Does anyone have suggestions about do's and don't's? All and any ideas gratefully accepted. Please address them direct to me. If anyone else wants the info, they too can request it from me direct. Thanks in advance. Ken.
