           Treasure Mountain Research Retreat 5
           Future Scenarios for School Library
                      Media Programs

                 Registration Information

Future Scenarios for School Library Media Programs will be
the topic of the next Treasure Mountain Research Retreat. Preceding
the American Association of School Librarians national conference in
Indianapolis, this one-day exploration of schooling and library media
programs in the future is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 1994
from 8:00am until 7:00pm. Bob Grover and Dan Callison are the
Program Chairs.
Featured presenter will be Jim Mecklenburger, President, The
Mecklenburger Group. The work of this education futurist will be the
focal point for discussion of papers by their authors on such topics as:
What will children's lives be like in the future (next 10-20 years)?
What will future schooling be like? What will teaching be like in the
future? What is the role of information (library media) professionals
in future schooling? What is the role of information (library media)
services in future schooling? What is the probable education required
for future information professionals? What kinds of nurturing will be
required for information professionals, i.e., continuing education,
networking, professional associations? What research will be required
to lead and support the future information professional?
We would like to hear from you now if you are planning to
come to this event. The site of this Treasure Mountain is the Abe
Martin Lodge at the Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana--
about an hour from Indianapolis in a beautiful area of the state.
The cost of this retreat will vary depending on your needs. For
a single room, the price is $125; a double room is $100. Included in
that price are accommodations for one night, three meals on
November 8, all conference materials, and coffee breaks during the
conference. Extras that you may want to take advantage of will be
transportation from the Indianapolis airport on November 7 (we'll
charge $10) and to AASL November 8, lodging after the conference
at the Lodge (rooms are available on November 8 and 9 if you need
them), and dinner the evening of the 7th. There is a restaurant at the
Lodge, so if you arrive early on Tuesday, you won't be stranded there
hungry.
If you choose to stay at the Abe Martin Lodge after the
conference ends, there is plenty to do in the area. You may want to
spend the day exploring the park or visiting Indiana University at
Bloomington, which is about 20 miles away. Nashville has a lot of
shops and craft stores to see.
Please take a few minutes to fill out the enclosed registration
form so we can get an idea of how many participants to expect.
Return it with your check for $20 (made out to Hi Willow Research
and Publishing) by October 1 to Susie Sigman, Libraries Unlimited,
P.O. Box 6633, Englewood, CO 80155. If you have any questions call
