I am happy to see the issue of secondary department head supplements brought to light. In our school, supplements are paid based upon the number of members in their department. This formula pays heads of larger departments such as English or Social Studies an inordinately large sum of money compared to their work load. Then, consider the 1 or 2 person department where the head works long hours before and after school and is paid much less. Where is the equity? Basically, the concept of supplements is a sham. In no other profession are people paid a flat rate and then expected to work an infinite number of hours to accomplish a given task. If teachers want to be treated as professionals they need to insist on a professional remuneration. Thank you for allowing me to express my viewpoint. __________________ _-_ TECHNOLOGY... \________________|)____.---'---`---.____ THE FINAL FRONTIER || \----._________.----/ || / ,' `---' David Ratner, Media Specialist ___||_,--' -._ Seabreeze High School /___ ||( Daytona Beach, Florida `---._____-' Internet: RATNERD@MAIL.FIRN.EDU
