In our state newsletter, mention was made of workshop modules which ALA has put together on "law, technology and confidentiality, media and public relations, and policy development". This was reported under Intellectual Freedom Symposium report by the CLA President. Did any LM_NET members attend this November ALA symposium and in light of our job description discussion, did the attendees discuss school library involvement in these changing legal issues? By coincidence, in today's paper was an AP article about a Boston MIT student bulletin board which allowed commercial copyrighted programs to be downloaded, assuming non commercial use. The US District court indicated that allowing the case to proceed could make it possible for home computer users to be prosecuted for copying even a single program for their own personal use. The judge suggested a need for copyright law revision. In light of this news article, ALA and the symposium presenters may have sought some input from AECT and the Software Producers Association. There are numerous technology publications on this legal issue in the catalog of these associations. Yet another suggestion for collaboration with other national affiliates of ALA...
