                             Job Description
                 Information Technology Coordinator (ITC)



Qualifications:  Rhode Island teacher certification; a master's degree in
Library Media, or equivalent, with coursework and experience in information
technology, computer literacy, and systems management.


Description:  The role of the ITC as information specialist is extremely
important because our students' success in the next century will depend, to a
large extent, upon the ability to access, evaluate, and use information.  The
Information Technology Coordinator functions as an intermediary responsible for
guiding users through today's complex world of information resources.  The ITC
is responsible for assessing and promoting effective use of information
technologies, and plays a leading role on the high school's technology planning
team.


Responsibilities in general:

1. Provide leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance in the use of
information technology, including, but not limited to,
     *electronic print and image-based communication systems
     *online communication between users and large databases at remote sites
     *compact disc and fiber-optic technology
     *cable television, microwave relays, satellites, fiber-optics,
      and other broadcast technologies
     *resource sharing networks located outside the school
2. Serve on computer and technology planning committees.
3. Coordinate inservice activities and other training activities for staff
in the use of information technology.
4. Assist in developing the library media and technology budget.
5. Assist the school administration in the management and maintenance of
computer systems throughout the school.
6. Operate and manage computer  networks.
7. Consult and negotiate with hardware and software vendors to maintain the
networks, and the equipment.
8. Maintain inventory and control of all non-print resources and related
equipment and software.
9. Assist in selection, acquisition and cataloging of software and hardware.
10. Research and evaluate current technology; keep abreast of future trends in
technology.



Responsibilities toward teachers and students:
1. Provide intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats.
2. Provide students with instruction to foster competence and stimulate
interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas.
3. Work with other educators to design learning strategies that utilize the
various technologies to meet the needs of individual students.
4. Assist students in media center and media center computer lab to locate,
analyze, interpret, and use information gathered from both print and non-print
sources for reports, assessments, and other applications.
5. Provide leadership in the integration of technology in all its forms into
the curriculum and teaching practices of the staff, including the development
of inservice programs, departmental workshops and other activities as deemed
necessary.
6. Represent, as necessary, the school or school department at professional
meetings and conferences related to technology.
7. Provide assistance to teachers and students in the production of multimedia
materials for classroom.
