The question of class rank was also raised last year on LM_NET and there
may be useful information there. Class rank was eliminated in most parts
of Canada decades ago mainly because it serves no useful purpose.
Assessment, using a variety of measures, is to be provided through
structured written comment by the teacher and letter grades MAY be put on
report cards or given to parents only in conferences, and then only from
Grades 4 and up; assessment is to be criterion-references, not norm
referenced.
Class rank truly does RANK to me. I wonder how teachers and their parents
would like to be similarly ranked... and to what end...
