I remember well that day in November when I heard about the Death
of John Kennedy. I was a sophomore in college. I was attending the
University of Northern Iowa. I was on my way to a class called Man and
Society. I had been in the Library all morning and was a little late for
class. As I entered the room I saw that several other students were
listening to the radio like they were trying to get a score of a game.
I sat down in my row and the girl next to me said" I knew he should
not have gone. " I replyed "Who, where?" I then was told Kennedy had
been shot. At that time we did not know if he was dead or alive. reports
were very sketchy. The professor came into the classroom , and as he
listened to the reports , dismissed class. Most of us then tried to
find some place to go that had a television. Most of us watched the events on
TV for the rest of the day and into the night. I knew some students who
stayed up all night watching. On Sunday, I was asleep in the dorm when I heard
a commotion in the hallway. A friend of mine who had been watching the Oswald
transfer was running down the hall yelling" They shot him. They shot the
SOB.They shot him right on TV."
The rest of the events are well remembered. The funeral was particularly sad
to remember.
