Dear friends, I am puzzled by the many messages I have seen on lm_net recently with regard to students printing too much from CD ROM databases and concerns about plagiarizing from electronic resources. I think the answer to both of these concerns is more teaching. When a class comes to my library to begin research on a topic I usually take about 15 minutes to refresh the students' understanding of the electronic resources available. I stand at the overhead projection panel while one of the students "drives" at the computer. That way I can face the students and together we do a test search, complete with downloading a full text article to disk. We have formatted disks available for students to purchase for $.50 (much the same as we have always had a pencil machine dispensing pencils for $.10).
