I am a high school librarian trying to get teacher cert to receive my actual salary. But I can't take the test until April and am being paid as a sub with no benefits. Although I'm sure that classroom experience is helpful I'm not convinced it should be a requirement for certification. After going through much red tape with the Board of Ed in Chicago (a very tedious and frustrating experience) I have everything in order. But I have a feeling that they will tell me I need 100 hours of student teaching for my cert. Where am I going to find 100 hours of teaching by April?! I can't afford to work without benefits and a full salary for a long period of time.
