One of the best books I've come across that deals with the death of a
friend is "A Taste Of Blackberries" by Doris Buchanan Smith. It goes
throught the stages of grief (without naming them, as good fiction
will). It's short enough (8 chapters) to read aloud in a couple of
sittings, and is appropriate for kids age 8 (if it's read to them) and
up--I've had teenagers come back to request it years later.
