TARGET-->Union catalogs

Does anyone have experience (in a school situation) with a Union catalog
versus a WAN  in which you connect to each school's data base individually to
locate materials?

All schools in our district (9 elem, 2 jr. hi, 1 freshman sch and 1 hs) are
currently or soon will be converted to Unison. The district is installing a
WAN and we must decide whether to go with a Union catalog or dial directly
into each school's media center. Either way has its advantages and
disadvantages I'm sure.

At each department meeting I share with the other media specialists all the
recent news from LM_NET. They are always fascinated and can't wait to get
online themselves. They asked me to check with you regarding your
experiences with Union catalogs.

Please send your pros and cons, what system you're familiar with, etc. Will
