REF: Star Trek quote?

My new principal of ONE day asked me to find all I could about a quote
that goes something like this: "The good of the many outweigh the good of
the few" .  I know that it was in one of the Star Trek movies and
probably in the original series.  What I don't know is if it is original
and what the exact wording is.  Mr. Spock said it and it was part of the
Vulcan religion or philosophy in the series.  Can anyone help me out on
this? I believe he is going to use it as the theme for the beginning of
school. Surely there are a few Trekie librarians out there.  TIA
