Yes! True Women is great -- esp. for you Texas women.  I gave it to my
aunt and stepmother to read.  Other nonmystery writers you should try are
Douglas Jones (historical fiction) and Amy Tan.  If you like prehistoric
people, I have enjoyed the books by Sue Harrison.  She has a trilogy.
