REF: Doonesbury IDs

My nearly-20-year-old daughter and her friend posed a question tonight
that eludes both memory and in-house reference sources. We were
discussing the Trudeau Doonesbury cartoons and Collin said, "I know Duke
is based on Hunter Thompson; are any of the other characters based on
real people?" Well, yes, I knew they were, but the old brain couldn't
dredge the names up out of the swamp of memory and my various '60s books
weren't much help either. Can anyone out there help us? TIA - Vona Van Cleef,
