I'VE GOTTEN SEVERAL RESPONSES BACK ABOUT WHAT BILLS TO CALL ABOUT.

THE RECISSION PACKAGE INCLUDES NEARLY EVERY EDUCATION FUNDING BILL. AT
THIS POINT WE DON'T NEED BILL NUMBERS. WE NEED DESPERATE CALLS TO YOUR
LEGISLATORS ABOUT CONDITIONS IN YOUR SCHOOLS.

****************************************************************************

Call, and encourage other library supporters in your area to call.

Use the Washington DC Congressional Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

Make three calls, ask for your Representative's and both Senators offices and gi
 ve their
first name along with include their first and last name, since there are several
  in
Congress with the same last name.

When the Receptionist in the Office answers, ask for the member of
Congress' chief aide.

Frankly tell them the effects on your children if funds are not provided.
discuss the following areas:

1. Concerns about the recission of nearly every library program, including
fellowships and institutes.

AS STATED EARLIER, NEARLY EVERY EDUCATION FUNDING BILL IS BEING RECOMMENDED
FOR RECISSION !!!!!

2. Concerns about -- "S. 652-Telecommunications Competition and Deregulation Ac
 t of
1995". Ashcroft (R-MO) is still threatening to introduce an amendment to
take school and library provisions out of S. 652 when the Senate returns
from its Easter break (THEY'RE BACK). Telecommunications providers are already
 MOBILIZING
TO STRIKE school and library provisions from the Bill.

The SNOWE/ROCKEFELLER/EXON/KERRY amendment (allows schools and libraries to
have free access to telecommunications) is only way for K-12 schools and
libraries to obtain affordable access to telecommunications services.

Please write or call your Senator(s) and ask them to -- "Support Affordable
school/library Telecommunications as included in the SNOWE/ROCKEFELLER/EXON
/KERREY amendment to S. 652".
