Can't help but also jump into this discussion. The Giver appeared on my 8 yr.
old's book club list and I purchased it for him. We started reading it
together but it didn't really catch his interest. Since the discussion
started we have been talking about the book and I am reading it now. I would
have trouble seeing The Giver on a reading list at the elementary level, but
individual reading should be dictated by a child's interest and maturity
level.
