Dear LM_Net friends,

Yesterday, I "threw caution to the wind" and put out my plea for
"greetings" directed to teachers("net newbies") who are attending two of my
upcoming training sessions (Eudora and Intro to the Internet). Within hours
I was receiving message after message, and many of them with "personal touches."

I received over 75 messages by this evening--from over 34 states and 5
international
locations.... a quite incredible response, but when you know what kind of group
this is (unbelievably responsive and helpful!) I guess I should have
expected that!
Nonetheless, I was still taken aback, as I read each one and felt my spirits
rise
(it has been one of the "bad weeks." I just want to thank ALL of you. I always
feel it is important to "give" and not just receive... so, as a way of thanks:

        1) I found a WONDERFUL new INTERNET BOOK that I really LOVE.... called

The INTERNET Resource Directory for K-12 Teachers and Librarians
95/96 Edition by Elizabeth B. Miller published by Libraries
Unlimited, Inc. Englewood, Colo. c1996 (1-800-237-6124)

This book is wonderful because it organizes Internet resources by
curriculum area and even lists the appropriate Discussion Groups
with the list of gopher and web sites, pointers to lesson
plans, etc.
For me, this is a great help... I don't have to hunt around for
the math listservs, they are listed right there!

I am sorry that I don't have the price, but I am at home and my
                purchase order is at school!

        2) I would like to point out two *exciting* electronic field trip
                projects:

                A) Live From the Hubble Space Telescope which
will bring scientists and students together for the
very first time to explore the planet(s) that students
will help select!! For more information...

                Send a message to updates-hst@quest.arc.nasa.gov
Leave the Subject blank; in the body of the message put
                subscribe updates-hst

I think you will find this a very exciting project brought
to you
by NASA and PBS via the Passport to Knowledge Projects by
                Geoff Haines-Stiles.

                B) Blue Ice: Focus on Antarctica.... this project is brought to
you by MECC and TBT International (International Arctic Project
and MayaQuest folks) Starting now (Nov & Dec=getting ready
for the
trip) and running through March of 1996 your students can take
an exciting online journey to Antarctica... the cost of the
program
is $85.00 and includes teacher's guide, advance bulletins,
weekly
e-mail newletter and exchanges with guests, discussion
forums, and more.

Also, if you have not visited my web page at the address below, please
do so. You will find that I have a set of pointers to some of the
best educational sites on the Net... and now my full bibliography
of "favorite Internet resources" is also there.

Enjoy and THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSES.... I plan to have my
"students" write as many of you as possible! :-)
