Regarding H. Pleva's comments--I too had second thoughts after an American
American parent saw my posters and questioned whether Toni Morrison's
"Beloved" was appropriate (my daughter gave me the book but I haven't read
it yet...)
However, I gave her the normal speech about freedoms, went home and
rethought the whole thing, and put up a display in the front hall
emphasizing the Right to Read including the "Freedom to Read" and "Students'
Right to Read" and our local selection policy. I had nothing but positive
reviews. Whew!
