I want to thank all of you who have answered my query. I have received approximately 50 responses that are packed full of a wide variety of useful answers. I am beginning to tally these identified skills and hope to complete my report within a month. I will definitely send information to all of you who have responded and any others who request it. On second thought, because there are so many responses (and maybe soon even more?), would it work best if I just post the HIT to the entire list? I'm new at this, so suggestions would help. Thanks again very much, Bobbe Tyhurst :) <btyhurst@u.washington.edu> p.s. I'm including a copy below of my original query in case any of you are new on board. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 5 Oct 1995 11:59:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Barbara Tyhurst <btyhurst@u.washington.edu> To: Multiple recipients of list LM_NET <LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> Subject: A request for information about library substitute skills (fwd) I would greatly appreciate your help. I am currently taking a library management course through the University of Washington extension division in pursuit of my library media specialist endorsement. As a class project, I am attempting to identify what librarians would like their substitutes to be able to do for them during their absence. This should be an interesting "adventure" because of our educational system's wide variety of school libraries, ranging from more traditional to highly technical. It seems obvious that those who "fill in" during these technologically changing times will need to be very versatile, but in what ways? I hope to compile my findings into some form of a meaningful report, probably with percentages and charts. I also intend to send a HIT message to you upon its completion. My goal is to come up with something that would be useful for us all. I am especially interested in this information because I initially intend to enter the library media specialist field by substituting in (I hope) a wide variety of school library settings and want to be well-prepared. Thanks, Bobbe Tyhurst <btyhurst@u.washington.edu>
