Well, I have to admit that I went and saw _The Scarlet Letter_ this weekend, even after reading the LA Times sarcastic and scathing review. It was a very good movie. However, it had very little to do with the book. Basically, some of the characters had the same names as the people in the novel, and that was pretty much where the resemblance ended. If you are looking for a true adaptation of the novel, this is not the movie for you. If you just want to see a fun movie about Puritans, then it is enjoyable. I was really annoyed for the first part of the movie, until I was able to distance myself by pretending it wasn't supposed to be about the novel at all. Which was easy, because it isn't. I would recommend seeing it, just to be able to tell students what was NOT in the novel.
