TECH: Help! Installing network, Follett timing out

I hope some Techie out there can help -

We are installing a Windows NT server that goes to Macintosh
classroom computers and my library DOS machines.  In my
library, the Follett will stop if not continually used.  If I
reboot, they work again for awhile.  My hired technicians
($70 per hour) are scratching their heads.

Any advice??!!  <Aarrrrggghhhhhhh>
