I subscribe to a listserve for mystery lovers and we all agree that
mystery is a genre of its own.  Romance, science fiction, fantasy,
historicals are others.  Perhaps purists would call these sub-genres, but
the term "fiction" is so broad that it can hardly be called a genre any
more.  Non-fiction is also too broad a term for a single genre.  Poetry,
plays, folk-lore, biography are all non-fiction.  That's my $.02 worth.
I'm not wearing my asbestos long johns so if you disagree, let it lie.
