A collegue of mine received a very hot note from a parent along with a primary book on Italy. The mom was incensed over the "pornography" masquerading under the name of Art. Of course, she was talking about Michelangelo's David. She had *pasted* fabric pants over the picture in the book. Some people will be offended by anything. I have a wonderful large size book on the human body which features the reproduction systems of both male and female. When I showed it to my principal (I was then a young librarian), she said it was in the encyclopedia and she would back me in any challenges. There were none because, though the book was in constant circulation, it never seems to have gone home. The only thing I have keep out of circulation recently is the January (?) issue of National Geographic which appears to show a man with a full erection. For an elementary, this was a little more than I wanted to deal with at the time. Naked breast and butts I can handle. =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Jan Moore Foster Elementary Library Media Specialist 1025 High Point janmoore@tenet.edu Arlington, TX 76015 FAX (817)468-8292 (817)465-4702 ==============================================================================
