Mary, This is a true story. The couple were William and Ellen Craft. The recounting of the event which I have is from _The Underground Railroad : Life on the Road to Freedom_ edited by Ellen Hansen. Perspectives on History Series. Lowell, Ma : Discovery Enterprises, 1993. The story goes that Ellen, who had light colored skin, dressed as a young plantation owner who had been in an accident. Her husband, William, pretended to be her servant. They stayed in hotels and rode the train from Georgia to Philidelphia and to freedom. Well, there may be other accounts similar to this one. I hope this helps. Allison G.
