Hi, My predessor began to undo the years of non-library service of the previous long staying man in this position. I've been told he yelled at the elementary children about overdue books and discouraged teachers and students from using the library. "The books might get out of order." Well, I'm in my fourth year and I guess you could say I'm a victim of my own success. The library is very busy with teacher requests for materials and reservations for class use. I post a reserved time schedule on our e-mail system along with notices about interesting articles in periodicals either on the faculty reading shelf or in the library. I send the periodical list and video list electroniclly to each teacher several times during the year with new titles marked. I hold two book fairs (timed to be held during parent-teacher conferences) so I get to see parents too. The elementary PE teacher and my aide woman the book fair. I do electronic newletters (used to be paper) and send weekly lesson plan to principals plus post a copy in plain view in the library to keep others informed as to the LMC person's activities. I'm beginning library automation and am active on the tech planning committee. I like the suggestion of monthly reports; I've done a yearly one that lists everything the LMC has done with circulation stats and number of classes reserving library time, etc. More often probably would be better. I've enjoyed this strand and have gleaned some ideas for further PR that should help the LMC status.
