I just read your HIT and while I saw lots and lots of terrific
suggestions, I just realized that I DIDN'T see one of my all time
favorites...SWAMP ANGEL by Anne Isaacs.  I get asked to read to groups
fairly often and if the age of the audience is right, that is always my
first choice.  Boys love it too...my second grade nephew was laughing
hysterically when my brother read it to him in my den not long ago.  (It
is one of my "coffee table books" along with OLD TURTLE and ON THE DAY YOU
WERE BORN.)
Just one more great "read."  :-)
