Here is a new Book Rap Project for junior secondary students who have read the novel Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian and would like to join in an on-line book discussion. Goodnight Mister Tom is a very popular and touching story of young Willie Beech who is evacuated to the country as Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War. A sad, deprived child, he slowly begins to flourish under the care of old Tom Oakley - but his new-found happiness is shattered by a summons from his mother back in London. The novel was first published by Kestrel in 1981, and in paperback by Puffin in 1983. Classes and interested individual students can participate in this Book Rap. Heres how: 1. Join the GMT list (see details below) 2. Introduce yourself or your class to the list. Tell us about yourselves, your school and where you live. (address your introduction to GMT@owl.qut.edu.au) 3. Read the suggested Rap Points (discussion topics) which will be posted to the list. Look for the first ones on Monday 18th November. 4. Join in the discussion. Address all your mail to GMT@owl.qut.edu.au. If you are replying to someone elses comments, be sure to name them in the subject line. --------------------------------------------------------------- Goodnight Mister Tom mailing list: List name and address: GMT@owl.qut.edu.au To subscribe: send an e-mail to: majordomo@owl.qut.edu.au no subject, no signature, with the message: subscribe gmt Web based information so far at: http://owl.qut.edu.au/oz-teachernet/projects/book-rap/ Student archive will be http://owl.qut.edu.au/common-cgi-bin/oz-students/GMT/ ------------------------------------------ | ,-_|\ Mount Scopus Memorial College | / Oz \ Victoria, Australia | \_,-.x/ | v email: Glenda.Scott@scopus.vic.edu.au ------------------------------------------
