A thank you to all who responded to this request. I hope the information is of value to others. Here are suggestions for video purchase in an elementary school: 1. A Cry in the Wild (the video version of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen) 2. Where the Red Fern Grows 3. Anything by Seuss (especially How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the Lorax) 4. Beatrix Potter videos--The Tale of Peter Rabbit, the Tale of Benjamin Bunny 5. Kipling: Rikki Tikki Tavi and the Jungle Stories 6. Berenstain Bears videos 7. The Reading Rainbow series of over 100 videos are probably used more often and in more ways than any other video or series I have purchased 8. The Dollhouse Murders based on the book by Betty Ren Wright. It kept the most impossible class I've ever had absolutely silent for the entire showing!! It is available in 2 versions, 60 min and I think about 90 min. I have the 60 owing to my using it in 2 segments for classes, and 90 would drag it on too long. 9. Charlotte's Web. 10. I love the Rabbit Ears series - so do the kids! 11. We like the National Geographics Really Wild ANimals series...cheaper when bought on the local market than from National Geographic 12. See how they grow series by Sony-Animals are born , grow up 13. Corduroy - Weston Woods now redone for video 14. The Ramona videos 15. Rabbit Ears folktale series. 16. The Missouri Botanical Garden's recent video project "What's It Like Where You Live?" explores plant and animal life in the major biomes of the world (grades 4-7). Over 2500 sets (3 half-hour videos, data base on CD and lessons) have been sold since the product was introduced in May 1996. The corresponding website <http://www.mobot.org/MBGnet> offers extensions and collaborative projects and has just been named a semifinalist in the 1996 National Information Infrastructure Awards. For schools with only one computer on-line (or slow machines) the 2500 files on the MBGnet website can be obtained on CD-ROM.> 17."Charlotte's Web" 18. "CHarlie & The Chocolate Factory" 19. Any of the "Clifford" videos 20. Reading Rainbows are a must 21. Clifford the big red dog videos for the primary. 22. Magic school bus for everyone. 23. Eric Carle video his biography and all his books are starting to come out on video. 24. The new Arthur series on PBS are really good social problems videos. Right now they are only on TV but sure to be released in the near future. 25. A series my teachers and kids love is National Geographic's: Polar Prowl, Wonders Down Under, (two others African Safari, Rainforest-I'm at home and can't think of the exact titles- These are great! The students enjoy them so much they are requested over and over. Provide interesting info and are a steal at $15.00 each. 26. BAILEY'S BIRTHDAY 27. DR. DESOTO 28. CRANBERRY THANKSGIVING 29. THOMAS' SNOWSUIT 30. ANGELA'S AIRPLANE 31. JOHNNY APPLESEED 32. MADELINE'S CHRISTMAS 33. CURIOUS GEORGE 34. HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON 35. ED EMBERLY'S DRAWING TECHNIQUES 36. These aren't titles of videos but series- we use the dorling Kindersley videos on science and the Rabbit Ears folktales series quite often and both children and teachers like them. 37. Iroquois, by Library Video Company (Schlessinger) 38. Pyramid 39. Castle 40. Cathedral 41. Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Knowledge Unlimited 42.
