RE: Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez ( a first novel) Funny this discussion should come up. I also have been looking for it for one of my teachers. We have found that it has gotten some good reviews: Kirkus Sept 1, 1996 p. 1324 Publisher's Weekly October 28, 1996 p.83 It looks like a modern Grapes of Wrath and in both reviews says it is for ages 12 up...but I am not sure. I also have not been able to get my hands on a copy, but my public library ordered it as soon as I started looking. Apparently, we think it won a National Book award, but I have not seen that verified in print. I would read it before purchasing at this point.
