I just found out about a great resource. It's a periodical called _Rethinking Schools_, "an independent quarterly journal committed to equity and social justice." What I have in my hands is a special issue, _Rethnking Our Classrooms_, full of articles, theory and practice. I just read "The Politics of Children's Literature, What's Wrong with the Rose Parks Myth" by Herbert Kohl. A must-read for anyone attempting Black History activities. Address is Rethinking Schools, 1001 E. Keefe Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53212, (414) 964-9646, email Barbaramin@aol.com A 2 yr sub is only $20. The special issue is $9.50 (includes post and handling) I've been mourning the loss of the Council on Interracial Books for Children. This is working on the same issues. Now all we need is someone that does good anti-bias book and media reviews! -- Johanna Halbeisen Woodland Elementary School(K-4) Southwick, Mass jhalbei@k12.oit.umass.edu
