Dear LM_Netters: Had quite a day here and would appreciate some
professional opinions to 2 problems. The first is that the new issue of
Rolling Stone arrived, a teacher complained and the principal told me to
put it away--not available. I did it, but would like to hear from you
about any reviews of Rolling Stone for high school libraries, its
validity or lack thereof, etc.(The issue seem to be the cover photo and
the Benetton ad which is two horses mating--not sure how that sells
clothes, but anyway it was found offensive--Not that I disagree, but
what do reviewers feel about this periodical?
Second problem--NEASC and the reps from the state of Maine have correctly
directed me to weed old and outdated materials out of the collection.
The plan I devised was to discard, then put the books in the teachers
room for teachers to help themselves. Anything left goes to students and
from there to the local public library for sale in their bookstore which
raises funds for the library. Now I find lengthy discussions going on in
the teachers room as to the validity of the discards--even though they
clearly meet the criteria of "MUSTY" previously listed on this list and
are not in Senior High Cat and have not been checked out in 5 to 10 years
by students or teachers! Anybody have any thoughts on a tactful,
respectful way to promote my professional competency/capabilities? I
have been in the profession with a masters since 1972, am working on a
second masters in technology in education and this one has me buffaloed!
TIA--
