I thought others might be interested in knowing about the 1997 versions of a couple of CD-ROM encyclopedias. They have links to the Internet which CANNOT be turned off. World Book 1997 Encyclopedia is ACTUALLY run using a browser such as Netscape or Explorer. When I spoke to the tech support people at IBM (who are co-producing this with World Book) they said they are including copies of CyberPatrol which protect children from things they shouldn't get into! Microsoft Encarta's links to the Internet also cannot be disabled. Only Grolier's has addressed this issue. The Grolier's 1997 Multimedia Encyclopedia has links to the Internet through CompuServ. They have created a file which will turn off the links to Compuserv. Cheryl W.
