Pow-wow can be downloaded from this site:

http://www.tribal.com/powwow/

I am a novice at using it, but am overwhelmed by the potential of
tools of this type. It allows "live" chat where you can see
others respond as they type. You can hook up a mic and have voice
chat as well. Incidentally, I am in no way connected with this
firm, and I can't vouch for the suitabilitiy of their product to
meet your needs.

Here is a small part of their advertising:

PowWow is an unique Internet program for Windows that allows up to nine
(9) people to chat, transfer files, and cruise the World-Wide Web together as a
group. PowWow also has Communities (Chat Rooms), Text-to-Speech
features and Email Answering Machine capabilities.
NEW! PowWow now has Online Games, Bulletin Board Messaging for
                       Communities and lots more!

PowWow currently works with Windows 3.x (using Win32s), Windows 95, and
                          Windows NT 3.51+.
