LM_NET: Library Media Networking

Has anyone had experience creating a LAN for a school where
the school has one or more non-contiguous classrooms or
buildings, some close in proximity, others 1/2 a block or more
away. The goal is to set up a category 5 Ethernet LAN. I'm
exploring options and not really sure what questions to ask.
Also....any suggestions for a good tech listserv?
