I know this has been discussed before but I'm still not sure if there is a
clear answer to copyright and multimedia projects. Our students are doing
hyperstudio projects and incorporating scanned pictures from books and
magazines. We make sure the project has a bibliography which includes the
sources for the pictures. My question is "is this a violation of
copyright?" To me its the same as years ago cutting out magazine pictures
to paste into a report. Was that copyright violation? In The Copyright
Primer for Librarians and Educators by Janis Bruwelheide it sounds like
this might fall into fair use. So my next question is can I take these
projects to a conference to demonstrate what are students are doing or is
that copyright violation? Are this questions too picky or is it something
to be concerned about??
