Friends, I am at my wits end...I desperately need advice sending/retrieving email from my single phone line at school. I have a new (less than 6 weeks old) MAC 5400 hooked to a Global Village Teleport Platinium 28.8 modem and I want to use Apple Internet Dialer (since this is the dial-up software the rest of the school will be using in September). I spent over 3 hours on the line with Apple Tech support today and got nowhere! First, I am confident the modem and Apple Internet Dialer software are ok. I installed both on a MAC 5200 and immediately connected to our ISP, district homepage and could surf the net and send/retrieve e-mail. Simple and exactly as the set-up directions said it would be! On the 5400 I can connect with my ISP and I can get to the Netscape web browser. I can maneuver to different internet sites. I cannot send or retrieve e-mail (via Netscape e-mail). When I click on Netscape mail... I wait, wait, wait. I have waited over 15 minutes and nothing happens. I have the software set to ask for your password (since many people will use this computer to read mail.) Yes, I have checked all the SMTP and POP server settings along with everything else I can check in the preferences. I've deleted preferences and re-installed. I've done a "clean" install and many other things as suggested by the Apple Tech people. Now I turn to you for help. I don't know if this is a factor, but this same 5400 had a defective floppy drive replace at 3 weeks old. Apple says this is not a factor in this situation. I am baffled, especially since it works so reliably on our 5200. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. (Especially since I have registered for an online competition for one of my classes scheduled to start in mid April.)
