I am getting ready to participate in a critical issues panel for school librarians at the Texas Library Association annual meeting. I am to address the issue of certification of school librarians. I am from Pennsylvania, though I didn't attend library school there. But one of my friends did, and at the time (many years ago) we were in school, there was an undergraduate teaching field in library science. Is that still true? We are having quite a debate over whether classroom certification and experience is essential before one becomes a school librarian. The possibility I mentioned sounds like one possible solution. I always like to hear from folks from Pa. I grew up in Clarion, so if anyone from CUP or who works in the area replies, I'll be thrilled!
