DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY/MEDIA SERVICES

The San Mateo-Foster City School District includes the city of San Mateo,
Foster City and some unincorporated areas.  The district serves a total
population of over 100,000 people. It is located on the San Francisco
Peninsula, 19 miles south of San Francisco.  Primarily residential, San
Mateo and Foster City are community-minded cities with a reputation for
excellent elementary and secondary schools.  The district provides
education for children from K through 8.  The 19 schools in the
elementary district include preschool and child care programs, 15 K-5
schools; and 4 middle schools of grades 6-7-8 with a total population of
10,800 students.  The District employees 550 ceertificated and 475
classified persons.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Reporting administratively to the Superintendent or designee, the
director will:
* Provide vision and leadership for media services and all aspects of
information technology, including administrative and academic computing,
networking and telecommunications;

* Implement applications in instructional technology for the primary
purpose of enhancing student achievement in all subject areas;

* Implement the Master Plan for Technology;

* Initiate innovative applications of information technology across the
institution through consultation and collaboration; and

* Effectively manage existing resources while creating additional
resources through grant writing and vendor partnerships

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Proven record of success, preferably but not necessarily in an
education environment;

* Work history that demonstrates increasingly responsible leadership in
information technology;

* Broad knowledge of the technologies comprising today's
information-oriented environment; and

* Effective managerial, interpersonal and communication skills.

Starting Date:      July 1, 1997
Salary:             $72,832 to $79,889 and excellent benefit package
