Hi all! I have a question pertaining to your library's section on animals.......my library has been a mess since I started in September. Nothing seems to be in order anywhere (and I haven't really had time to go through and organize it, unfortunately). Anyway, on Friday I think I got a clue as to why. I have a parent volunteer that comes in once a week, who has been volunteering for about five years, I guess. She shelves books, etc. Well, she told me she finally got the animal section in order for me. I thought great!!! I thanked her, and told her that it's been hard to find specific things after looking them up in the card catalog (nope, no automation) because materials were all over the place. She then informed me that she just ignores the Dewey number and places all like books together.....all dog books together, all rabbit books together, all bear books together, etc. I didn't really know what to say to her, although I wanted to yell out in pain. Does anyone else do this in their library??? As far as I can see the benefits of this type of practive would be outweighed by the problems, but I wanted some of your input.....please!!! Thanks!
