Greetings Fellow LM_NETters,

IASL will hold its 27th Annual Conference in Israel in 1998.  You are
welcome to submit proposals for presentations as indicated below.  It would
be a pleasure to meet many of you again on another continent!  Information
about attending the conference will be available shortly!

International Association of School Librarianship
July 5-10, 1998
Ramat-Gan, Israel

CALL FOR PAPERS

You are cordially invited to present your paper at the 27th annual
conference of the International Association of School Librarianship, to be
held July 5-10, 1998, at the campus of Bar-Ilan University, Israel. If you
are interested, submit an extended abstract of at least 4 pages (approx.
1000 words).  All abstracts will be reviewed by the academic committee. The
Second Annual International Forum on Research in School Librarianship will
be part of the program.


General theme:

EDUCATION FOR ALL: CULTURE, READING AND INFORMATION

Subthemes:
*Information literacy and information skills
*Reading as a basis for using information technology efficiently
*Future changes in educational systems
*Minority language reading in the world of information technology
*Crisis in teaching reading as a skill
*Reading encouragement
*Children's literature: new formats (multimedia, etc.)
*Children's literature: reflections of society, culture and ethnic groups
*Role of librarians and technology in developing and improving plans of
action for learning.
*Role of librarians and technology in developing and improving courseware
*The digital library in the school library media center
